This series reveals the secrets of four of the world’s most iconic mountains

Each film in this series embraces the major historical events, the natural world, extreme engineering, and stories of human survival from Everest, Kilimanjaro, Mont Blanc and Ben Nevis.

From how fossils of 400-million-year-old sea creatures have been found on the top of Mount Everest, or why the sheer size of Kilimanjaro creates its own weather system, these stories help us see these well-known mountains in a new light. UGC, archive, eyewitness testimony and expert insight are all used to tell the human stories of mankind’s relationship with each mountain and how these have informed our understanding of them.  These include man’s obsession to conquer these peaks - charted through a range of stories from the heroic triumphs of courageous Victorian climbers equipped with little more than tweed suits, to the famous first ascents in the 20th Century and more modern expeditions.
