Award-winning factual label Arrow Media has received its first tv/podcasting order, seeing the company moving into companion podcasts for the first time.

True crime leader Investigation Discovery has ordered 18 podcast episodes for Arrow Media’s hugely successful Mind of a Monster, to support the TV series’ transmission on both ID and discovery+. The first six episodes of that podcast commission will accompany a new three-part Mind of a Monster serial on The Co-Ed Killer, Ed Kemper.

Tom Brisley, Creative Director, Arrow Media, says: “Our feature documentary brand Mind of a Monster has been a huge hit with the true crime audience. In our quest to shed new light on each of the film’s subjects, we both uncover and create a wealth of never-before-heard footage and audio. The uniqueness of feature docs of this nature depends entirely on the quality of access, and the Arrow team has exceptional access built on many long-standing relationships. In the process, we garner a huge amount of compelling material, so we are thrilled to be able to use the additional medium of podcasting to provide an even richer experience for the audience.”

The Co-Ed Killer: Mind of a Monster (3 x 60 mins), is the most comprehensive insight into one of the worst minds in history. Cruising Santa Cruz’s ocean highways, Ed Kemper is a gentle giant who offers hundreds of young female hitchhikers a ride. But behind his charming smile and signature gold-rimmed glasses lurks a brutal and perverted monster. With a near genius IQ, young Ed learns how to manipulate any situation. He toys with his family, fools the many psychiatrists who analyse him, and evades the police who are hunting

him by befriending them. Unveiling a wealth of new material about Ed Kemper, the Arrow team interviewed detectives who worked the case, journalists who reported at the time of the killings, forensic psychologists, friends and family of victims' loved ones, and other individuals who met Ed Kemper in prison. The Co-Ed Killer: Mind of a Monster tells the untold story of the notorious serial killer, necrophile, cannibal and mother-hater, who shattered the innocence of 1970’s Santa Cruz.

The series premieres on ID on Monday, November 1 at 9/8c and will stream on discovery+ beginning November 2. The 6 x 45 mins podcast series, entitled Mind of a Monster: The Co-Ed Killer and Herbert Mullin, will be available on all leading podcast platforms in the run-up to the TV premiere.
